Euchre

Partners play tricks with a 24-card deck; call trump and take 3 of 5 tricks.

1. 1Four players in two partnerships; use 9s through aces (24 cards). Deal 5 each and turn up the next card.
2. 2Going round, players can order the dealer to pick up the turned card (making that suit trump). If everyone passes, anyone may name a different trump.
3. 3The jack of trump (right bower) is the highest card, then the other jack of the same colour (left bower), then A-K-Q-10-9 of trump.
4. 4Follow suit if you can. The makers need 3 of the 5 tricks: 1 point, or 2 for all five (a march). Fail and the other team scores 2 (they “euchred” you).
5. 5Going alone (your partner sits out) and taking all five = 4 points. First team to 10 wins.
